Biography
Om Shivpuri (22 October 1938 – 7 October 1990) was an Indian actor and theatre director who worked extensively in Hindi films, television, and stage productions. He was one of India's most respected character actors, known for portraying judges, doctors, businessmen, police officers, and authoritative figures with remarkable conviction.
Born in Kota, Rajasthan, India, Om Shivpuri graduated from the National School of Drama, where he was part of its early batches. Along with his wife, actress Sudha Shivpuri, he co-founded the renowned theatre group Dishantar, which played a significant role in modern Hindi theatre.
Om Shivpuri appeared in more than 175 Hindi films during his career. Some of his notable films include Aandhi, Mausam, Don, The Great Gambler, Love Story, Namak Halaal, Arth, and Asha Jyoti.
Throughout his career, he worked with many of Indian cinema's biggest stars, including Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, Hema Malini, and Shabana Azmi. His commanding screen presence and versatility made him one of the most dependable supporting actors of his generation.
Om Shivpuri passed away on 7 October 1990 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, leaving behind a rich legacy in Indian theatre and cinema.
