Park Jin Pyo

Biography

Park Jin-pyo is a South Korean film and television director, screenwriter, and producer, born in 1966 in Seoul, South Korea. He studied film at Chung-Ang University and began his professional career as a television documentary producer and director before moving into feature filmmaking.

He made his feature-film directing debut with Too Young to Die (2002), a film inspired by the real-life relationship of an elderly couple. The film received international recognition, including a Special Mention at the Vancouver International Film Festival and Best New Director at the Director's Cut Awards.

Park subsequently directed You Are My Sunshine (2005), Voice of a Murderer (2007), Closer to Heaven (2009), and Love Forecast (2015). You Are My Sunshine earned him the Best Director award at the 26th Blue Dragon Film Awards.

After several years focused primarily on cinema, Park made his television-series directing debut with the fantasy legal thriller The Judge from Hell (2024). Starring Park Shin-hye and Kim Jae-young, the SBS drama follows a demon who possesses the body of a judge and punishes criminals by sending them to Hell.

His other notable credits include Brave Citizen (2023), for which he served as director, and executive-producer work on projects including Blood and Ties (2013). His storytelling frequently draws on real-life situations and explores intense emotional conflicts and morally complicated characters.

Through his work in documentaries, feature films, and television, Park Jin-pyo has established a distinctive career combining realistic human drama, romance, crime, thriller, and socially grounded storytelling.
