Biography
Pattukottai Prabhakar, born on July 30, 1958, in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, is a widely celebrated Indian writer and screenwriter, primarily known for his extensive contributions to Tamil literature, particularly in the crime and detective fiction genres, and his significant work in the Tamil film and television industries.
Literary Prowess and Early Beginnings
Pattukottai Prabhakar's literary journey began early, with his debut work published in the popular Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan in 1977. He holds a master's degree in economics from St. Joseph's College, Trichy, which he pursued before dedicating himself to a writing career.
He is an incredibly prolific author, having penned over 250 short stories, 300 novels, and 85 serial stories. More than 200 of his works have been published as special edition books by various publishers. His versatility extends across genres, though he is most renowned for his crime and detective novels.
His most famous creations are the "Bharath Susila Detective series," featuring the detective couple Bharath and Susila of Moonlight Agencies. Some of his novels, such as Maram and Kanavugal ilavasam, are even part of literature syllabi in private colleges, and M.Phil scholars have written theses on his writings. He also ran two monthly magazines, Ungal Junior and Ullasa Oonjal, for ten years.
Transition to Screenwriting and Television
Pattukottai Prabhakar's talent seamlessly transitioned from print to screen. He has contributed significantly to the screenplay and dialogues of numerous Tamil films, totaling over 25. He also worked as an assistant director and assisted in scripting for two films with director K. Bhagyaraj.
