Paul Brannigan

Biography

Paul Brannigan, born on 14 September 1986 in Glasgow, Scotland, is a Scottish actor known for his compelling performances in both film and television. He is best known for his role as Gareth O'Connor in the Scottish soap opera River City and as Robbie in the 2012 Ken Loach film The Angels' Share. Brannigan also appeared in the 2013 sci-fi film Under the Skin.

Early Life

Brannigan grew up in the working-class East End Barrowfield area of Glasgow. His childhood was marked by gang violence and family struggles, as both of his parents were long-term drug addicts. During his youth, Brannigan was involved in gang activity and spent time in a young offenders institution. These experiences have informed the authenticity and intensity he brings to his acting roles.

Career

Brannigan made his film debut as Robbie in The Angels' Share (2012), a dark comedy-drama directed by Ken Loach, set in Glasgow and the Scottish Highlands. His performance earned him a BAFTA Scotland nomination for Best Actor.

He began appearing in River City as a one-off character but returned in 2013 for a recurring role as Gareth O'Connor. Brannigan left the show in September of that year.

In addition to his early successes, he appeared in films including Under the Skin (2013) and Sunshine on Leith. On television, he played Scotty in the fifth series of the Irish crime drama Love/Hate and Michael in the UK thriller Beyond (2014).
