Early Life
Brannigan grew up in the working-class East End Barrowfield area of Glasgow. His childhood was marked by gang violence and family struggles, as both of his parents were long-term drug addicts. These experiences have informed the authenticity and intensity he brings to his acting roles.

He began appearing in River City as a one-off character but returned in 2013 for a recurring role as Gareth O'Connor. Brannigan left the show in September of that year.
In addition to his early successes, he appeared in films including Under the Skin (2013) and Sunshine on Leith. On television, he played Scotty in the fifth series of the Irish crime drama Love/Hate and Michael in the UK thriller Beyond (2014).
