Biography
Peter Boyle (1935–2006) was an American actor best known for his versatile performances in film and television. He was born on October 18, 1935, in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
Boyle began his career in theater before moving into film and television. His breakthrough came with Joe (1970), in which he played a violent and prejudiced factory worker. The performance earned him widespread recognition and established him as a major character actor.
He went on to appear in numerous films, including The Candidate (1972), Young Frankenstein (1974), Taxi Driver (1976), The Dream Team (1989), The Shadow (1994), and Monster's Ball (2001). In The Shadow, he played Moe Shrevnitz, the cab driver and trusted friend of the mysterious crime fighter.
On television, Boyle became especially famous for playing Frank Barone on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond (1996–2005). His portrayal of the irritable but humorous father earned him several Emmy Award nominations.
Boyle was also respected for his ability to move between comedy and serious drama. He died on December 12, 2006, in New York City, at the age of 71. He left behind a diverse body of work spanning more than four decades.
