Peter Horton

Biography

Peter Horton is an American actor, director, producer, and writer, born on August 20, 1953, in Bellevue, Washington. He studied music composition at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and initially developed an interest in classical music before pursuing acting.

 

Horton gained recognition for playing Professor Gary Shepherd on the television drama Thirtysomething from 1987 to 1991. He also appeared in films such as Children of the Corn, Where the River Runs Black, The Cure, Singles, and The Dust Factory.

 

He later established himself as a successful director and producer, working on series including The Wonder Years, The Shield, Once and Again, and Grey's Anatomy. He directed the pilot episode of Grey's Anatomy and served as an executive producer on the series, earning Emmy and Directors Guild Award nominations.

 

Horton also worked as an executive producer on Six Degrees, The Philanthropist, Dirty Sexy Money, and New Amsterdam. Through his extensive work both in front of and behind the camera, he has built a diverse career in American television and film.
