Biography
Peter Morgan was born on 10 April 1963 in Wimbledon, London, England. He is a British playwright, screenwriter, and producer best known for creating the acclaimed historical drama series The Crown. He studied at the University of Leeds and began his writing career in television before establishing himself as a major writer for stage and screen.
Morgan gained recognition with the television drama The Deal (2003), which explored the political relationship between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. He later wrote The Queen (2006), starring Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II. The film earned Morgan an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay and won him several major awards.
His other major works include The Last King of Scotland (2006), Frost/Nixon (2008), The Other Boleyn Girl (2008), The Damned United (2009), and Rush (2013). His stage play Frost/Nixon was later adapted into the acclaimed 2008 film directed by Ron Howard.
Morgan created and principally wrote Netflix's The Crown (2016–2023), which chronicles the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the British royal family across six seasons. The series was developed from ideas explored in his earlier film The Queen and stage play The Audience.
Throughout his career, Morgan has received numerous honors, including five BAFTA Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, and four Golden Globe Awards.
