Peter Stormare

Biography

Peter Stormare was born in Arbrå, Gävleborgs län, Sweden, to Gunhild (Holm) and Karl Ingvar Storm. He began his acting career at the Royal National Theatre of Sweden, performing for eleven years. 

In 1990 he became the Associate Artistic Director at the Tokyo Globe Theatre and directed productions of many Shakespeare plays, including "Hamlet". In 1993 he moved to New York, where he appeared in English productions. 

He continues to work in both the United States and his homeland of Sweden. He resides in Los Angeles, California, USA, with his wife.

He was accidentally hit by Mark Hamill during a fight scene in Hamilton (1998). He has broken his nose four times, the last time during the shooting of "Unknown". A nose surgery was done in 2008, to prevent him from going blind on the right eye.

Has played a German, (The Big Lebowski (1998)), a Frenchman (Chocolat (2000)), three Russians (Bad Boys II (2003)), Armageddon (1998), and Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (2008)), an Italian (Prison Break (2005)), a Dane (Echo (2007)), a Norwegian (Switch (2007)) and a Swede (Minority Report (2002)) (The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)).

In addition to being a stage and screen actor, he was quite prolific as a playwright and a theater director.

Discovered by Ingmar Bergman.

Is best friends with fellow Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard and is the Godfather of Stellan's son Gustaf.

Was a friend of Ethan Coen and Joel Coen long before he was cast in Fargo (1996).

Became an American citizen in the late 1990s.

Plays in a band called Blonde From Fargo.

His favorite actor is Gary Oldman.

Began using the name Stormare, since there were two Peter Storms at the Swedish Royal Dramatic Theatre.

He's an actor, a writer, a director, and a musician.

Whenever possible, he avoids watching himself in either TV shows or films.

Peter is the owner of a record label: StormVox.

He moved to New York in 1993. Nowadays he lives in Los Angeles (2007).

The last name is pronounced Stor-mar-e.

Has a daughter, Kelly (born in March 1989), with a former Swedish girlfriend. He also has a daughter with his present wife, named Kaiya Bella Luna, and born May 9, 2009.

Peter started his career at Royal Dramatic Theater in Sweden.

He and his wife, Toshimi, welcomed a daughter, Kaiya Bella Luna, born May 9, 2009.

Released his first album in 2002: "Dallerpölsa och småfåglar".

Was offered the part of Eddie the Dane (originally named Eddie the Swede) in Miller's Crossing (1990), but had to decline due to scheduling conflicts.

As of 2018, he has appeared in three films that were nominated for the Best Picture Oscar: Awakenings (1990), Fargo (1996), and Chocolat (2000).

Son of Karl Ingvar Storm and Gunhild Storm.

Became a friend with actress Signe Hasso when he moved to Los Angeles. He, among other friends and relatives, spent time with Hasso during her last days and he sat with her and held her hand when she passed away.

Is one of two Swedish actors to play a Russian (Bad Boys II (2003) & Mr. Monk Paints His Masterpiece (2008)(#6.14)). Dolph Lundgren is the other; Ivan Drago in Rocky IV (1985).

He has appeared in two films that have been selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant: Fargo (1996) and The Big Lebowski (1998).
