Biography
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) was a French painter and one of the leading figures of Impressionism, celebrated for his vibrant use of color and depictions of everyday life. Born on February 25, 1841, in Limoges, France, Renoir trained as a porcelain painter before studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he developed his skills in drawing and painting.
Renoir’s career is characterized by his focus on light, color, and the human figure. He is renowned for works portraying social gatherings, leisure activities, and intimate portraits, capturing the warmth and vitality of modern life. Famous paintings include Luncheon of the Boating Party (1881), Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette (1876), and Girls at the Piano (1892).
While initially associated with Impressionism, Renoir later evolved towards a more classical style, emphasizing form and composition while retaining his luminous palette. Despite arthritis in his later years, he continued painting with remarkable dedication. Renoir died on December 3, 1919, leaving a legacy of joy, beauty, and innovation that continues to inspire the art world.
