Pitobash Tripathy, often known simply as Pitobash, is a notable Indian actor who has made his mark in Bollywood, the Odia film industry, and even Hollywood. Known for his unique acting style and ability to inhabit diverse characters, Pitobash has steadily built a commendable career since his debut.

 

 

Early Life and Education: A Foundation in Performance

Born in 1984 in Nayagarh, Odisha, Pitobash was raised in Bhubaneswar. He completed his schooling at Government High School, Unit 1, and pursued his higher secondary education at Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar College in Bhubaneswar.

 

 

His academic pursuits extended beyond conventional studies; he earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in 2005 from the Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology in Kolkata. However, his true passion lay in performance. He further honed his acting skills by obtaining a diploma from the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, a key stepping stone in his journey as an actor.

 

 

Even before his formal training, Pitobash's talent was recognized. At the age of 12, he was honored with the National Bal Shree Award from the President of India for his creative performance. He was also actively involved in theatre in Kolkata, starting in 2001 and continuing until 2007, before venturing into the film industry.

 

 

Career: From Supporting Roles to International Recognition

Pitobash's acting career began with the film "99" (2009), followed by a supporting role in the widely acclaimed "3 Idiots" (2009). His performances in "I Am Kalam" (2010) and "Shor in the City" (2011) brought him significant recognition. For "Shor in the City," he won a Screen Award for Best Comedian and was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also showcased his range by playing five different roles in the film "Mirch" (2010).

 

 

He continued to appear in various Bollywood films, including "Shanghai" (2012), "Joker" (2012), "Go Goa Gone" (2013), and "Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara!" (2013).

 

 

A significant milestone in his career was his Hollywood debut in the biographical sports drama "Million Dollar Arm" (2014), where he shared the screen with Jon Hamm. This international exposure further highlighted his talent.

 

 

More recently, Pitobash has been seen in films like "Begum Jaan" (2017), "Mom" (2017), "Total Dhamaal" (2019), and "French Biriyani" (2020). He also featured in the National Award-winning Odia film "Kalira Atita." In 2024, he appeared in Dev Patel's action film "Monkey Man," with his comedic performance as Alphonso being particularly noted.

 

 

Beyond films, Pitobash has also explored the digital space, appearing in web series like "Metro Park" and "The Magic of Shiri," where he acted alongside Divyanka Tripathi and Jaaved Jafferi. He has also taken on roles as an executive producer, as seen in "Modi Ji Ki Beti" (2022) and "Prachand" (2024).
