Poo Ramu

Biography

Poo Ramu was an Indian actor and theatre artist who worked mainly in Tamil cinema. Born in 1962, he began his career as a street-theatre performer and was associated with the Chennai Kalai Kuzhu theatre group from 1990 to 2005.

 

He made his film debut with Anbe Sivam (2003) and gained wider recognition with Poo (2008), directed by Sasi. Following the success of the film, he adopted “Poo” as his stage name. He subsequently appeared in films including Neerparavai (2012), Thanga Meenkal (2013), Mersal (2017), Pariyerum Perumal (2018), Peranbu (2019), Soorarai Pottru (2020), Karnan (2021) and Rocky (2021).

 

Poo Ramu also appeared in the Malayalam film Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, where he played Nambi, Sundaram's father. The film starred Mammootty, Ramya Pandian, and Ashokan.

 

Known for his natural performances and strong theatre background, Poo Ramu was respected for portraying grounded supporting characters. He died on 27 June 2022 in Chennai at the age of 60 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
