Rachin Ravindra, born on November 18, 1999, in Wellington, New Zealand, is a prominent cricketer known for his left-handed batting and slow left-arm orthodox bowling. He represents the New Zealand national team and plays domestically for Wellington.

 

 

Early Life and Background

Rachin's parents, originally from Bangalore, India, moved to New Zealand in the 1990s. His father, Ravi Krishnamurthy, is a software architect who played club-level cricket in Bangalore before relocating. The name 'Rachin' is a blend of the names 'Rahul' and 'Sachin', reflecting the admiration for Indian cricket legends Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. Rachin began playing cricket at the age of five in Wellington and frequently traveled to Bangalore to play club cricket, nurturing his skills from a young age.

 

 

Domestic Career

Rachin represented New Zealand in the Under-19 Cricket World Cups in both 2016 and 2018. His performances led to a contract with Wellington for the 2018–19 season. He made his List A debut for New Zealand A against Pakistan A in October 2018 and his first-class debut shortly thereafter. In November 2019, he scored his maiden List A century for Wellington against Auckland, and in March 2020, he achieved his first first-class century in the Plunket Shield.

 

 

International Career

Rachin made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for New Zealand against Bangladesh on September 1, 2021. He earned his Test cap on November 25, 2021, against India, showcasing his potential on the international stage. His One Day International (ODI) debut came on March 25, 2023, against Sri Lanka. As of February 2025, Rachin has played 15 Test matches, scoring 1,057 runs with an average of 37.75, including two centuries. In 30 ODI matches, he has amassed 1,082 runs at an average of 43.28, with four centuries to his name.

During the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Rachin became the youngest centurion for New Zealand in World Cup history, scoring a century off 82 balls against England.
