Tucker received an early career opportunity through Project Greenlight, when a screenplay she co-wrote with Sera Gamble became one of the competition's finalists. She subsequently began writing for the ABC drama Eyes and joined Supernatural, where she worked as a writer and story editor.

Her breakthrough came with HBO's True Blood. Tucker worked on the series for six seasons as a writer and producer, eventually becoming an executive producer. She later served as an executive producer on AMC's The Returned and Netflix's Jessica Jones. Tucker also created the Facebook Watch series Sacred Lies, adapting Stephanie Oakes' novel The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly. The series follows a teenage cult survivor who escapes and becomes involved in a murder investigation.

In 2023, Tucker served as showrunner, executive producer, and writer on Amazon's science-fiction drama The Power, based on Naomi Alderman's novel.
