Biography

Rajasenan is an Indian film director, screenwriter and actor who has worked predominantly in Malayalam cinema. Born on 20 August 1958, he began his career as an assistant to director P. K. Joseph before making his directorial debut with Aagraham in 1984.

He became particularly successful during the 1990s, directing popular family entertainers and comedies. Some of his best-known films include Kadinjool Kalyanam (1991), Ayalathe Adheham (1992), Meleparambil Anveedu (1993), CID Unnikrishnan B.A., B.Ed (1994), Vardhakya Puranam (1994), Aadyathe Kanmani (1995), Aniyan Bava Chetan Bava (1995), Kadhanayakan (1997), The Car (1997), Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshathrathilakkam (1998) and Darling Darling (2000).

Rajasenan had a particularly successful professional association with actor Jayaram. The pair collaborated on 16 films, many of which became popular with Malayalam audiences. Meleparambil Anveedu, a 1993 romantic comedy starring Jayaram and Shobana, is regarded as one of the notable films from this collaboration.

In addition to directing, Rajasenan has written stories and screenplays and has acted in several films. He played the lead role in Bharya Onnu Makkal Moonnu (2009), which he also directed. His later directorial works include Madhuchandralekha (2006), Kanaka Simhasanam (2006), Romeo (2007), Oru Small Family (2010), Innathe Kalyanam (2011) and Njanum Pinnoru Njanum (2023).

Rajasenan has also been active in Malayalam television, directing serials such as Sambavami Yuge Yuge, Bhagyanakshatram and Krishnakripasagaram, while appearing in television programmes and serials as an actor.

Known especially for his comedy and family-oriented films, Rajasenan remains an important filmmaker associated with the popular Malayalam cinema of the 1990s and early 2000s.
