R. Dilip (1955 – 27 July 2012) was an Indian actor known for his work across Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam films. Though details about his early life remain limited, he went on to build a steady career in multiple South Indian film industries.

 

 

Entry into Films

R. Dilip gained recognition early in his career through his association with Kamal Haasan. He appeared alongside him in the critically acclaimed Tamil film Varumayin Niram Sivappu (1980), directed by K. Balachander.

Interestingly, the stage name “Dilip” was inspired by a false identity his character assumed in the film. The name stayed with him throughout his career and became how audiences recognized him.

 

 

Acting Career

Dilip went on to appear in more than fifty films across multiple languages, showcasing his versatility as a supporting and character actor. He worked in a variety of genres, from drama to family-oriented films.
