Biography

Renuka is an Indian actress best known for her work in Tamil television and Malayalam cinema. She gained widespread recognition for playing the lead role in Premi, a Tamil television serial directed by acclaimed filmmaker K. Balachander. She has also appeared in Telugu films during her career.

Renuka's family was originally from Srirangam, Tamil Nadu. After the early death of her father, she moved to Chennai at a young age and began working as a theatre artist with Komal Swaminathan's drama troupe. Her early experience in theatre helped her develop her acting skills and eventually opened the door to film and television.

She made her Tamil film debut with Samsara Sangeetham (1989), directed by T. Rajender. The following year, she appeared in the Malayalam film Kuttettan (1990). She went on to build a substantial career in Malayalam cinema, appearing in around 75 films, while also working in Tamil and Telugu productions.

Her association with K. Balachander became an important part of her television career. She appeared in his serial Kaialavu Manasu in a supporting role and later in Kadhal Pagadai, which increased her popularity. She subsequently took leading roles in Premi, Jannal, and Ganga Yamuna Saraswati. Her performance in Premi received particular appreciation.

With a career spanning theatre, films, and television, Renuka has established herself as a versatile South Indian actress, particularly recognized for her memorable performances in Tamil serials and Malayalam films.
