Richard Barton Lewis
Biography
Richard Barton Lewis (born September 20, 1953) is an American film producer and writer, and the founder and CEO of Southpaw Entertainment. He is also the co-founder of Trilogy Entertainment.
Education
Lewis earned his undergraduate degree in Biological Anthropology from UC Berkeley and later received a master’s degree in Motion Picture and Television Production from UCLA.
Career
Over his career, Lewis has produced numerous films, soundtracks, and primetime television programs, with his projects earning more than 135 awards, including Oscars, Emmys, and Golden Globes. He has developed and produced acclaimed films such as August Rush, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and Backdraft, as well as the Emmy-winning MGM/UA series The Outer Limits.
Lewis spearheaded the production of August Rush, not only producing the film but also its Oscar- and Grammy-nominated soundtrack, which was later adapted into a Broadway musical directed by John Doyle. He also produced the sci-fi romantic adventure The Space Between Us, starring Asa Butterfield, telling the story of the first human born on Mars who dreams of visiting Earth—based on a story co-written by Lewis.
In 2020, his company, Southpaw Entertainment, co-produced the thriller Inheritance, further expanding his diverse portfolio in film production.
