Biography
Richard Glatzer (1952–2015) was an American filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer best known for his work on emotionally powerful independent films. He frequently collaborated with his husband, filmmaker Wash Westmoreland.
Glatzer co-wrote and co-directed The Fluffer (2001), Quinceañera (2006), and The Last of Robin Hood (2013). His most acclaimed work was Still Alice (2014), which he co-directed with Westmoreland and co-wrote. The film follows a linguistics professor diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and was based on Lisa Genova’s novel. Still Alice
Glatzer was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2011, yet continued making films despite the progressive illness. He died on March 10, 2015, at the age of 63. Still Alice was released shortly before his death and became a major critical success.
