Biography

Richard Pryor (1 December 1940 – 10 December 2005) was an American comedian, actor, writer, and social critic widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential stand-up comedians of all time. He was born in Peoria, Illinois, USA.

Pryor began his career performing stand-up comedy in the 1960s, initially following a more traditional style before developing his own bold and personal approach. His comedy often explored race relations, social issues, family life, and his own experiences, earning him recognition for his honesty and groundbreaking storytelling.

He became a major figure in comedy through successful stand-up specials such as Richard Pryor: Live in Concert (1979) and Richard Pryor: Here and Now (1983). His fearless style influenced generations of comedians and changed the direction of modern stand-up comedy.

As an actor, Pryor starred in numerous popular films, including Silver Streak, Stir Crazy, Brewster's Millions, and See No Evil, Hear No Evil. He also appeared as Gus Gorman, a computer hacker who helps villain Ross Webster, in Superman III.

Throughout his career, Pryor received several honors, including five Grammy Awards for his comedy albums and recognition from the Kennedy Center Honors. His performances combined humor with sharp social commentary, making him a major influence on both comedy and popular culture.
