Robert Cochran
Biography
Robert Cochran is an American television writer and producer best known for co-creating the acclaimed action-thriller series 24 with Joel Surnow. He studied at Stanford Law School and initially worked as a lawyer and management consultant before moving into television writing.
Cochran began his television career writing for series such as L.A. Law, Falcon Crest, JAG, and The Commish. In 1997, he and Surnow created the spy drama La Femme Nikita, which ran for five seasons.
His biggest success came with 24, which premiered in 2001 and starred Kiefer Sutherland as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer. Cochran served as a writer and executive producer and helped develop the show's innovative real-time storytelling format.
Cochran and Surnow won the 2002 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for the 24 pilot. He also shared the 2006 Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series as an executive producer of 24.
He later returned to the franchise as a writer and producer for 24: Live Another Day and 24: Legacy. Beyond television, Cochran is also an author, having written the historical adventure novel The Sword and the Dagger.
