Comedy Career

Dangerfield began performing stand-up comedy in the 1940s but faced financial difficulties and temporarily left show business. He returned to comedy in the 1960s and eventually became a major nightclub performer. His appearances on television, particularly The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show, helped make him nationally famous.

He also appeared in Rover Dangerfield (1991), Natural Born Killers (1994), and Meet Wally Sparks (1997). His dramatic performance in Natural Born Killers demonstrated his ability to move beyond his familiar comedy persona.
