Biography

Roman Coppola (born April 22, 1965) is an American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and inventor. He is a member of the famous Coppola filmmaking family and has worked extensively in film, television, music videos, and experimental media.

Early Life

Roman François Coppola was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, to acclaimed director Francis Ford Coppola and artist and filmmaker Eleanor Coppola. His siblings include filmmaker Sofia Coppola and producer Gian-Carlo Coppola.

Growing up around filmmaking had a major influence on his career. He began working on his father's productions while still young and developed interests in cinematography, visual effects, and experimental filmmaking.

Film Career

Coppola worked in various technical and creative roles on major films. He was involved in Apocalypse Now (1979), where he worked on the film's special effects and visual elements.

He later served as second-unit director and contributed to visual effects and production on several films. His credits include work on Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), directed by his father, and other international productions.

Directing and Screenwriting

Roman Coppola made his feature directorial debut with CQ (2001), a science-fiction comedy set within the world of filmmaking. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and reflected his fascination with cinema, technology, and 1960s European filmmaking.
