Rory Haines is a British screenwriter, producer, and director known for creating thoughtful and politically driven stories for film and television. Born on June 22, 1984, in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, he grew up in Yorkshire and Belfast, experiences that helped shape his interest in social and political themes. He later studied at Columbia University in New York, earning a Master of Fine Arts degree in film, where he met his longtime creative collaborator, Sohrab Noshirvani.

Haines began his career working in television production and directing short films before moving into screenwriting. His early scripts gained attention in Hollywood, including From Here to Albion, which appeared on the Black List of notable unproduced screenplays. Alongside Noshirvani, he developed several original projects and built a reputation for intelligent and suspenseful storytelling.

Haines expanded his success into feature films with The Mauritanian (2021), an adaptation of Mohamedou Ould Slahi’s memoir Guantánamo Diary. The film starred Jodie Foster, Tahar Rahim, and Benedict Cumberbatch and earned widespread acclaim, including award nominations for its screenplay. He later co-wrote the superhero film Black Adam (2022), bringing his storytelling style to a major blockbuster production.
