Ryan Kwanten

Biography

Ryan Kwanten is an Australian actor and producer, born on November 28, 1976, in Sydney, New South Wales. He studied commerce at the University of Sydney before pursuing a career in acting. He began appearing on Australian television in the early 1990s and gained recognition after joining the long-running soap opera Home and Away as Vinnie Patterson.

 

After moving to the United States, Kwanten appeared in the television series Summerland and went on to achieve international fame as Jason Stackhouse in HBO's supernatural drama True Blood (2008–2014). He played the character throughout all seven seasons, becoming one of the show's most recognizable cast members.

 

His film credits include Flicka (2006), Dead Silence (2007), Red Hill (2010), Griff the Invisible (2010), Knights of Badassdom (2013), Northmen: A Viking Saga (2014), Kidnapping Freddy Heineken (2015), The Hurricane Heist (2018), 2067 (2020), and Glorious (2022).

 

Kwanten also expanded into producing, serving as a producer and star of the crime drama series The Oath (2018–2019). He later appeared in Sacred Lies and played Thomas Weylin in the FX series Kindred (2022).

 

In 2021, Kwanten starred as George Bell in the first season of the Amazon horror anthology series Them, appearing alongside Deborah Ayorinde, Ashley Thomas, Shahadi Wright Joseph, and Melody Hurd.

 

With a career spanning Australian television, Hollywood films, and American series, Ryan Kwanten is particularly recognized for True Blood, Home and Away, The Oath, Kindred, and Them.
