Biography
Saagar K. Chandra, originally named Kala Sagar, hails from Nalgonda district in Telangana, India. He completed his schooling in Nalgonda and went on to earn a degree in Electrical Engineering from Vasavi College of Engineering in Hyderabad. Later, he moved to the United States for higher studies and work. However, driven by a deep passion for cinema, he returned to India to pursue a career in filmmaking. Coming from a non-film background, Saagar had to convince his family of his decision to switch from engineering to films.
Career Beginnings
In 2009, Saagar left his job in the U.S. and returned to Hyderabad to join the Telugu film industry. He began his journey as an assistant director, working under filmmaker Ravi Babu on the movie Amaravathi (2009). This experience gave him practical knowledge of the craft and the workings of the industry.
Directorial Debut and Rise to Fame
Saagar made his directorial debut with Ayyare in 2012, a film that received appreciation for its strong script and realistic portrayal of characters. His storytelling style — grounded, emotional, and socially aware — began to attract attention.
