Sailesh Kolanu

Biography

Sailesh Kolanu is an Indian film director and screenwriter who predominantly works in Telugu cinema. He is best known for creating and directing the successful thriller franchise, "HIT".   

Early Life and Education

Sailesh Kolanu was born and raised in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His father, Seshagiri Rao Kolanu, worked as a production manager for Pratap Art Productions and later for filmmaker Kodi Ramakrishna. This early exposure to the film industry likely sparked Sailesh's interest in filmmaking.   

He graduated in optometry from LV Prasad Eye Institute and later pursued a PhD at the University of New South Wales. Despite his academic achievements in the field of optometry, Sailesh's passion for filmmaking eventually led him to pursue a career in the film industry.   

Career

Sailesh Kolanu's journey into filmmaking began with the 2018 short film, "Checklist," which he made for IFP's 50-hour filmmaking challenge. This short film showcased his talent for storytelling and filmmaking, paving the way for his entry into feature films.   

His directorial debut came with the 2020 Telugu film, "HIT: The First Case," produced by Nani. The film, starring Vishwak Sen, was a critical and commercial success, establishing Sailesh as a promising young director in the Telugu film industry.   

The success of "HIT: The First Case" led to the creation of the "HIT" franchise. Sailesh directed the second installment, "HIT: The Second Case," released in 2022, which further solidified the franchise's popularity. He has also announced plans for "HIT: The Third Case," starring Nani.   

In addition to the "HIT" franchise, Sailesh also directs the upcoming Telugu film, "Saindhav," starring Venkatesh Daggubati. This film marks a significant step in his career, as it features a prominent star and is expected to reach a wider audience.
