Sam Phillips
Biography
Sam Phillips, born Leslie Ann Phillips on January 28, 1962, in Glendale, California, is an American singer, songwriter, composer, and occasional actress. She began her career in contemporary Christian music under her birth name before adopting the stage name Sam Phillips and moving toward alternative rock and sophisticated pop.
Her breakthrough as a mainstream artist came with albums such as The Indescribable Wow (1988), Cruel Inventions (1991), and the critically acclaimed Martinis & Bikinis (1994). She later released Fan Dance (2001), A Boot and a Shoe (2004), Don't Do Anything (2008), and World on Sticks (2018).
Phillips also developed a successful career in television music. She became closely associated with creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, composing music for Gilmore Girls (2000–2007), Bunheads (2012–2013), Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (2016), and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
As an actress, she appeared as the mute terrorist Katya in Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995) and made a musical appearance in The End of Violence (1997).
