Biography
Sana Khan is an Indian model, dancer, and actor, who works in the Hindi and South Indian film industries. She began her career as a model and went on to appear in films, making her Bollywood debut with the movie Yehi Hai High Society in 2005. Sana has also appeared in various TV commercials and was a part of the sixth season of the television reality show Bigg Boss aired on the Colors TV channel.
Sana made her acting debut with the Hindi movie Yehi Hai High Society in the year 2005. In the next couple of years, she appeared in guest roles in movies such as E (2006), Bombay to Goa (2007), and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (2007).
It was around this time that the popular Tamil superstar Silambarasan approached Sana Khan for a role in his 2008 movie Kettavan. However, for reasons unknown, Sana declined the offer. Later, Silambarasan again approached the actress for another film titled Silambattam (2008); this movie marked the first lead role of the actress in a Tamil movie.
Essaying the role of a talkative and tomboyish Brahmin village girl, Sana was highly appreciated for her performance and went on to win the ITA Best New Actress Award in Singapore in 2009. In the next few years, she appeared in movies such as Halla Bol (2008) and Thambikku Indha Ooru (2008).
In 2010, Sana made her Telugu film debut with the movie Kalyanram Kathi, an action-drama directed by Malikharjun. The film initially was caught in a controversy with regard to the title that it had been registered for – Kathi. The title was already registered by the acclaimed Telugu filmmaker, Gunasekhar.
The film upon its release turned out to be a box office failure. The following year, she starred in the bilingual movie Gaganam (Telugu), which was shot simultaneously in Tamil as Payanam; both versions of the movie were critically and commercially acclaimed. In the same year, Sana made her Kannada movie debut with the Kool...Sakkath Hot Maga (2011).
Although the movie was not appreciated at the box office, it was later aired on a TV channel and received positive reviews. In the next couple of years, Sana was seen in South Indian movies such as Aayiram Vilakku (2011) in which she portrayed the role of a Madurai girl and Mr. Nookayya (2011).
Sana made her Malayalam debut with the film Climax (2013), a biographical movie that portrays the life of the actress Silk Smitha. However, when the movie received a theatrical release the disclaimer stated that the ‘characters are imaginary’. More so, in the movie, Sana portrays the character of Supriya, a starlet – the movie received a negative reception at the box office.
After appearing in Salman Khan’s Jai Ho in 2014, Sana was seen in the 2016 crime thriller Wajah Tum Ho, which featured Rajneesh Duggall, Gurmeet Choudhary, and Sharman Joshi in pivotal roles. The movie, however, failed to wow the critics and audiences alike and did moderately well at the box office.
Next, she was seen in Toilet - Ek Prem Katha, starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar, which is a comical take on the Indian PM’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and explores the unhygienic sanitary conditions in most parts of India.
Sana Khan was seen as a contestant on the sixth season of the TV reality show Bigg Boss and stood third. In 2015, she appeared as a contestant on the sixth season of the TV show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi. She has also been a part of the TV shows Comedy Nights Bachao and Comedy Nights Live.
