Biography

Sanford Bookstaver (born September 1, 1973) is an American film and television director and producer. Born in New York City, he graduated from the USC School of Cinema-Television in 1995.   

 

 

Bookstaver began his directorial career with the 1999 film Scriptfellas. However, he is primarily known for his extensive work in television, directing episodes for numerous popular and critically acclaimed series. His television directorial credits include:

 

Drama: Dark Winds, Dexter: New Blood, Helstrom, Chicago Fire, Power, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Chicago Med, Chicago P.D., White Collar, Graceland, The Night Shift, Revenge, The Protector, The Good Guys, Human Target, Harper's Island, The Beast, Crash, Cane, Jericho, Bones, Prison Break, House, Tru Calling, One Tree Hill, The O.C., Fastlane, Pasadena, The Chronicle, Cover Me: Based on the True Life of an FBI Family, The Others, and Dawson's Creek.

 

 

He also has producing credits, including serving as a producer for the series Fastlane and a co-executive producer for Revenge.

 

 

Bookstaver has received a Pixie Award nomination for Best Director of an I-Feature Film for Scriptfellas.

 

 

He was previously married to actress Rena Sofer. They divorced in 2017 but remarried in May 2024. They have one daughter together. Bookstaver is also the stepfather to Sofer's daughter from a previous marriage.
