Biography

Sarah Shahi (born Aahoo Jahansouzshahi on January 10, 1980) is an American actress with Iranian and Spanish heritage, celebrated for her captivating performances across a wide range of film and television roles. Her career journey is marked by versatility, from her early days as a cheerleader to becoming a recognized face in popular dramas and action series.

Early Life and Path to Acting:

Born in Euless, Texas, Shahi displayed an early interest in the performing arts. She attended Trinity High School and Southern Methodist University, where she studied opera and majored in English. As a teenager, she participated in beauty contests, winning the Miss Fort Worth pageant in 1997.

Before her acting career fully took off, Shahi was a member of the iconic Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders squad from 1999 to 2000, even gracing the cover of their 2000 calendar. It was during her time as an extra on the set of Robert Altman's film Dr. T & the Women (2000) that she met the acclaimed director, who encouraged her to move to Hollywood and pursue acting.

Breakthrough Roles and Television Success:

Shahi quickly gained recognition for her recurring roles in popular television series. She appeared in Alias (2001), Dawson's Creek (2003), and notably became a fan favorite as Carmen de la Pica Morales in the Showtime series The L Word (2005–2009). Her performance as a savvy stripper and college student, Sonya Aragon, in a memorable episode of HBO's The Sopranos (2007) further showcased her range.

She went on to star as Detective Dani Reese in the NBC crime drama Life (2007–2009) and as Kate Reed in the USA Network legal drama Fairly Legal (2011–2012), for which she received an ALMA Award nomination. However, she is arguably best known for her main role as Sameen Shaw, a former CIA agent turned vigilante, in the CBS crime drama Person of Interest (2012–2016). More recently, she gained widespread attention for her leading role as Billie Connelly in the Netflix series Sex/Life (2021-2023).

In film, Shahi has appeared in various genres.
