Biography
Saran, whose full name is K. V. Saravanan, is an accomplished Indian film director and screenwriter predominantly active in the Tamil film industry. Born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, Saran has made a significant impact on Tamil cinema, known for directing several commercial successes.
Early Life and Entry into Film: Saran initially pursued a diploma in visual communications from the College of Arts and Crafts and even worked as an instructor in textile design. His passion for cinema, however, led him to the film industry. He began his career assisting the acclaimed director K. Balachander, a pivotal experience that shaped his directorial approach.
Career as a Director: Saran made his directorial debut in 1998 with the film Kadhal Mannan, starring Ajith Kumar. The film was a significant success and marked a strong start to his career. He followed this with back-to-back hits like Amarkalam (1999) and Parthen Rasithen (2000).
He continued to deliver successful films, including Gemini (2002), which was a blockbuster and further solidified his standing. His other notable directorial ventures include Jay Jay (2003), Vasool Raja MBBS (2004), a remake of the Hindi film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., and Attagasam (2004).
Saran has also produced movies under his own production houses, Gemini Productions and Saran Movie Factory. While some of his later films, such as Idhaya Thirudan (2005), Modhi Vilayadu (2009), and Aasal (2010), faced mixed reviews or fared poorly at the box office, he continued to direct, with films like Aayirathil Iruvar (2017) and Market Raja MBBS (2019) in recent years.
