Sasadhar Mukherjee

Biography

Sashadhar Mukherjee (29 September 1909 – 3 November 1990) was a pioneering Indian film producer and one of the most influential figures in Hindi cinema. He co-founded Filmistan Studios and later established Filmalaya Studios, playing a major role in shaping the careers of several actors, directors, writers, and technicians. His films were known for their strong storytelling, memorable music, and wide commercial appeal.

Early Life

Sashadhar Mukherjee was born on 29 September 1909 in Jhansi, in present-day Uttar Pradesh, India. He began his career in the film industry at Bombay Talkies, where he gained experience in film production and studio management.

Career

After leaving Bombay Talkies in the 1940s, Mukherjee co-founded Filmistan Studios, one of the leading production houses of its time. In 1958, he founded Filmalaya Studios, which became a major center for Hindi film production and introduced many successful artists.

Family

Sashadhar Mukherjee belonged to the distinguished Mukherjee-Samarth film family. His sons included:

Death

Sashadhar Mukherjee died on 3 November 1990 at the age of 81.
