Savita Bhatti

Biography

Savita Bhatti is a notable Indian actress, television producer, and social activist, best known for her involvement in the comedy scene alongside her late husband, Jaspal Bhatti. She was born in New Delhi and grew up in a family where she lived in various cities due to her father’s transferable job, which shaped her diverse outlook on life. 

 

Savita was active in extracurricular activities during her school years, which later led her to a career in teaching. She began her professional life by working as a teacher at St. Mary’s Convent School in Kasauli, and later at Birla Vidya Niketan in New Delhi​.

 

After completing her B.Ed, Savita pursued a postgraduate degree and later a course in journalism, where she earned third place at Panjab University​.

 

She then moved into the entertainment industry, initially joining her husband in the creation of satirical content. In 1989, Savita and Jaspal became household names with the popular Hindi TV sitcom Flop Show on DD National. She played a major role in writing, directing, and producing the show, which became an iconic satirical comedy.

 

Savita continued to work in the entertainment industry, starring in various TV and film projects. Some of her well-known works include films like Fanaa (2006), Kartoos (1999), and Punjabi comedies such as Power Cut (2012), Jija Ji (2005), and Chakk De Phatte (2008). In addition to acting, she co-founded Jaspal Bhatti Films in 1995 and became its executive producer​.

 

She also continued to promote her husband’s legacy through social activism and the Nonsense Club, which focused on satire related to social and political issues.

 

After Jaspal Bhatti's tragic death in 2012, Savita dedicated herself to preserving his legacy. She became the chairperson of the Jaspal Bhatti Film School and initiated the annual Jaspal Bhatti Comedy Film Festival​.

 

Her contributions to the field of entertainment, as well as her activism, keep her a prominent figure in the Indian comedy scene.
