Biography
Scott Wilson (1942–2018) was an American film and television actor whose career spanned more than five decades. Born on 29 March 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia, he initially studied architecture before moving to Los Angeles and pursuing acting.
Wilson made his film debut in In the Heat of the Night (1967) and soon gained critical attention for playing murderer Richard Hickock in In Cold Blood (1967). His other notable films included The Great Gatsby (1974), The Ninth Configuration (1980), The Right Stuff (1983), Dead Man Walking (1995), Pearl Harbor (2001), Monster (2003), Junebug (2005), and Hostiles (2017).
He became especially popular for playing Hershel Greene in AMC's The Walking Dead, appearing from 2011 to 2014 and returning for a final appearance in 2018. He also played Abel Johnson in Netflix's mystery series The OA (2016–2019).
Wilson received a Golden Globe nomination for The Ninth Configuration. He died on 6 October 2018 in Los Angeles, aged 76, from leukemia.
