Senthil is a well-known Indian actor and comedian who became a familiar face in Tamil cinema through his distinctive humor and memorable comic timing. He is especially remembered for his long-standing on-screen partnership with fellow comedian Goundamani, which remains one of the most iconic comedy duos in South Indian films.
Biography
Senthil was born as Senthil Kumar on 23 March 1951 in Ilanjambore, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. Coming from a modest background, he entered the film industry with great determination and gradually made a name for himself through perseverance and talent.
Career
Senthil made his acting debut in the late 1970s and gained popularity during the 1980s and 1990s. His career took a major turn when he began acting alongside Goundamani, with whom he delivered countless comedy sequences that became immensely popular. Their humor, often based on wordplay, slapstick, and situational comedy, appealed to audiences of all ages.
He appeared in hundreds of films, often playing the role of a naïve, witty, or unlucky character who became the target of Goundamani’s sharp wit. Some of his notable films include Karagattakaran, Gentleman, Chinna Gounder, Annamalai, Indian, and Jeans. Though primarily known as a comedian, Senthil also took on supporting and character roles later in his career.
