Sethunath Pathmakumar
Biography
Sethunath Pathmakumar is an Indian film director, screenwriter and actor who works primarily in Malayalam cinema. He made his directorial debut with the 2025 Malayalam film Aabhyanthara Kuttavaali, for which he also wrote the screenplay.
Before becoming a director, Sethunath worked as an assistant director for around 12 years. His credits include Ishq (2019), Anveshanam (2020), Aanaparambile World Cup (2022), Heaven (2022), Mahaveeryar (2022) and the series Masterpeace (2023). He also had small acting roles in films such as Anveshanam and Operation Java.
He studied for an MBA before pursuing his interest in filmmaking and later completed a one-year course at Westford Film Institute. His experiences with divorce and family-court cases, as well as stories he encountered from others, influenced the subject of his debut film.
His debut film, Aabhyanthara Kuttavaali (2025), stars Asif Ali and explores marital conflict, divorce proceedings and allegations of domestic violence and dowry harassment. Sethunath has said that he intended to encourage discussion about the issue rather than take sides based on gender.
