Shakila (1 January 1935 – 20 September 2017) was an Indian actress who worked primarily in Hindi cinema during the 1950s and early 1960s. Best known for her beauty, graceful screen presence, and performances in romantic and suspense films, she rose to fame through a series of successful films produced by Guru Dutt Films. She appeared alongside many of the leading actors of her era and became one of the popular actresses of the golden age of Hindi cinema.

 

 

Early Life

Shakila was born on 1 January 1935 in Solapur, Bombay Presidency (now Maharashtra), India, into a Muslim family. She developed an interest in acting at a young age and entered the Hindi film industry as a child artist before transitioning to leading roles.

 

 

Career

Shakila began her film career as a child actress in the 1940s and gradually established herself as a leading actress during the 1950s. Her breakthrough came with Aar Paar (1954), directed by Guru Dutt, in which her performance earned widespread recognition.

 

She went on to star in several successful films, including C.I.D. (1956), Mr. Lambu (1956), Tumsa Nahin Dekha (1957), 12 O'Clock (1958), Detective (1958), China Town (1962), and Shikari (1963). Her performances in crime thrillers, romantic dramas, and musicals made her one of the most recognizable actresses of the decade.

 

Throughout her career, Shakila worked with many prominent actors, including Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Guru Dutt, Pradeep Kumar, Bharat Bhushan, and Johnny Walker.
