Shankar Dayal (died 19 December 2024) was an Indian screenwriter and film director who worked predominantly in Tamil cinema. He was known for incorporating social issues, corruption, and political themes into his stories, often presenting them through satire and commercial entertainment.

 

 

Career

Shankar Dayal began his career as a dialogue writer. He wrote dialogues for Parasuram (2003), starring Arjun Sarja, and later worked on Jayam Ravi's Deepavali (2007).

 

He made his directorial debut with Saguni (2012), starring Karthi in the lead role and Santhanam in a prominent supporting role. The film was a political satire that explored subjects such as corruption, political manipulation, mafia influence, and the power struggles surrounding politics. It became a commercially successful venture and established Dayal as a filmmaker interested in contemporary social and political issues.

 

His next major directorial project was Kuzhanthaigal Munnetra Kazhagam, which featured comedians Senthil and Yogi Babu in important roles. The project attracted attention for bringing together established and contemporary performers while continuing Dayal's interest in socially themed storytelling and humour.

 

 

Death

Shankar Dayal died on 19 December 2024 at the age of 54 after suffering a heart attack. He is remembered for his contributions to Tamil cinema as a dialogue writer and director, particularly for Saguni and his socially oriented approach to filmmaking.
