Biography
Shiv-Hari is the renowned Indian music director duo comprising Santoor maestro Shivkumar Sharma and flutist Hariprasad Chaurasia. They excelled in both Indian classical music and Bollywood movie scores.
Career
Shiv-Hari's collaboration began with the iconic 1967 album Call of the Valley, created alongside guitarist Brij Bhushan Kabra. This groundbreaking album blended Indian classical music with innovative techniques, including the use of the guitar, earning acclaim both in India and internationally. It remains one of the most celebrated Indian classical music albums.
Following their initial success, the duo performed together extensively, releasing the live album The Valley Recalls in 1996 as a tribute to their earlier work.
The partnership extended to Bollywood, where Shiv-Hari composed music for eight Hindi films. Their compositions became iconic, particularly in romantic dramas directed by Yash Chopra.
Shivkumar Sharma passed away on 10 May 2022 due to cardiac arrest at the age of 84, marking the end of an era for Indian music.
