Biography
Shonda Rhimes is an American television writer, producer, screenwriter, and author, born on January 13, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois. She studied English literature at Dartmouth College and later earned an MFA in screenwriting from the University of Southern California.
Rhimes became widely recognized as the creator and executive producer of Grey's Anatomy, which premiered in 2005 and became one of television's longest-running medical dramas. She also created Private Practice and Scandal and served as an executive producer on How to Get Away with Murder.
She founded the production company Shondaland in 2005 and later entered an exclusive partnership with Netflix. Her major Netflix projects include Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, and Inventing Anna.
Rhimes has received numerous honors, including a Golden Globe, Peabody Award, and Producers Guild Award, and was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 2018. She is also the author of the bestselling memoir Year of Yes.
