Shruti

Biography

Shruti (born Girija on 18 September 1975) is an Indian actress, television personality and politician who has predominantly worked in Kannada cinema. She has also appeared in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Tulu films. With a career spanning more than three decades, she has acted in over 160 films, including more than 130 as a leading actress.

Acting Career

Shruti emerged as one of the leading actresses of Kannada cinema during the 1990s and early 2000s. She became particularly known for female-oriented and emotionally driven films. Her notable movies include Shruthi (1990), Muddina Maava (1993), Aagatha (1995), Karpoorada Gombe (1996), Kalki (1996), Gowdru (2004), Rama Shama Bhama (2005), Akka Thangi (2008) and Puttakkana Highway (2011).

In her later career, she transitioned successfully into character roles and received appreciation for films such as Kalpana (2012), Gombegala Love (2013), Rathnan Prapancha (2021), Bhajarangi 2 (2021), Kaatera (2023) and Maadeva (2025).

Shruti has demonstrated versatility by portraying emotional, comic and negative characters. Her performances have earned her three Karnataka State Film Awards, one Tamil Nadu State Film Award and four Filmfare Awards South.

Television and Other Work

Shruti has also been active on television. In 2016, she won the third season of Bigg Boss Kannada. She later appeared as a judge and personality on programmes including Majaa Talkies and Kwaatle Kitchen.

She is the sister of actor Sharan, who is also a prominent personality in Kannada cinema.

Political Career

Shruti entered politics by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2008. She later became associated with the Karnataka Janata Paksha before returning to the BJP following its merger with the party.

She also served in leadership roles within the BJP's women's wing in Karnataka. In 2020, she was appointed Chairperson of the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation.
