Siddique

Biography

Siddique is a renowned Indian film director and screenwriter who predominantly worked in Malayalam cinema. He is best known for his association with the popular filmmaker duo Siddique–Lal, whose films played an important role in shaping Malayalam comedy and commercial cinema during the late 1980s and 1990s.

Siddique and Lal began their careers as assistant directors and later established themselves as a writing-directing team. Their debut film, Ramji Rao Speaking (1989), became a major success and is regarded as a landmark comedy in Malayalam cinema.

The duo subsequently made successful films such as In Harihar Nagar (1990), Godfather (1991), Vietnam Colony (1992) and Kabooliwala (1994). Their films combined humour, memorable characters, family emotions, and entertaining situations.

After separating professionally from Lal, Siddique continued as a solo director. His notable films include Friends (1999), Chronic Bachelor (2003), Bodyguard (2010), Ladies & Gentleman (2013) and Bhaskar The Rascal (2015).

Siddique also directed films in other Indian languages. His Malayalam film Bodyguard was remade in Tamil as Kaavalan and in Hindi as Bodyguard, starring Vijay and Salman Khan respectively.

As a filmmaker, Siddique is particularly known for combining comedy, family drama, romance, and commercial entertainment. His films often feature strong character relationships and situations built around humour and emotion.
