After completing his education, he began working in the television and advertising industries before eventually transitioning to feature films.

Career:

Simon West’s career took off in the early 1990s when he made his feature film directorial debut with the action-packed thriller "Con Air" (1997). The film, starring Nicolas Cage, John Cusack, and John Malkovich, was a commercial success and helped establish West as a notable director in Hollywood. "Con Air" is known for its high-octane action sequences, dramatic plot, and larger-than-life characters, which would become a hallmark of West’s filmmaking style.

Following the success of Con Air, Simon West went on to direct several other notable action films, further cementing his reputation as a master of the genre. His next major project was "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" (2001), starring Angelina Jolie as the iconic video game character.

In 2003, West directed "The General's Daughter", a military thriller starring John Travolta, which was well-received by critics and audiences alike. While his filmography continued to include high-energy action films, he also expanded his creative range with titles such as "The Mechanic" (2011), starring Jason Statham, which showcased a more grounded, methodical approach to the action genre.

In addition to his work in film, West’s versatility as a director was also reflected in his ventures into television.
