Sona Nair

Biography

Sona Nair is an Indian actress known primarily for her work in Malayalam cinema and television. Born on 26 June 1975 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, she has built a long career playing supporting and character roles in films and television serials.

Early Life and Education

Sona Nair attended Al-Uthuman Higher Secondary School, Kazhakoottam, where her mother worked as a teacher. She later graduated from Government College for Women, Thiruvananthapuram. She married Malayalam cinematographer Udayan Ambadi in 1996.

Acting Career

Sona Nair began her film career in the 1990s. She received her first credited film role in Thooval Kottaram (1996), directed by Sathyan Anthikad. She subsequently appeared in films such as Katha Nayakan, Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal, Bhoopathi, The Car, Dany and Manassinakkare.

During the 2000s, she became a familiar character actress in Malayalam cinema, appearing in films including Naran (2005), Vettam (2004), July 4 (2007), Hello (2007), Passenger (2009) and Kerala Cafe (2009).

She has also worked in Hindi cinema, with appearances in films such as Malamaal Weekly (2006), The Waiting Room (2010), Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal (2012) and Rangrezz (2013).

Television Career

Alongside films, Sona Nair has had a significant career in Malayalam television. She appeared in several popular television productions and telefilms, which helped establish her as a recognizable face among Malayalam audiences. Her performance in the telefilm Rachiyamma earned her the Best Actress Award at the Kaveri Film Critics Television Awards in 2004. In 2006, she received the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Kerala State Television Awards for Samasya.
