Sonu Gowda, born Shruthi Ramakrishna, is an Indian film actress who has worked in Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil cinema. Known for her versatility and expressive performances, she has established herself as a notable presence in regional Indian cinema.
Early Life and Education
Sonu completed her schooling at Carmel High School in Padmanabhanagar, Bangalore, Karnataka. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Surana College, Bangalore. Coming from a family connected to the film industry—her father, Ramakrishna, is a makeup artist in Kannada cinema, and her sister Neha Gowda is a television actress—Sonu was exposed to the arts from an early age.
Career
Sonu Gowda made her acting debut in the Kannada film Inthi Ninna Preethiya (2008), directed by Duniya Soorii and co-starring Srinagar Kitty. The film was a commercial success, and Sonu’s performance was well-received. She went on to appear in films such as Paramesha Panwala (2008), Gulama (2009), Gultoo (2018), and I Love You (Nanne Preethse) (2019), alongside several Malayalam and Tamil projects.
Her work in Gultoo earned her multiple award nominations, and she won the Best Actress Chandanavana Film Critics Award for her performance in I Love You.
Beyond films, Sonu has worked as a model and appeared in numerous television commercials. She is a member of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy and is associated with WeMove Theatre, a Bangalore-based theatre company.
