Biography

Sophie Rois, born on June 1, 1961, in Ottensheim, Austria, is a highly acclaimed Austrian actress celebrated for her versatile and captivating performances on stage and screen.   

Rois studied acting at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. Following her training, she embarked on a successful theater career, becoming a prominent member of renowned ensembles, including the Burgtheater in Vienna and the Schaubühne in Berlin. Her stage work has earned her critical acclaim and numerous awards, solidifying her reputation as a formidable talent in the German-speaking theater world.   

In addition to her distinguished stage career, Sophie Rois has also made significant contributions to film and television. She has appeared in a wide range of productions, showcasing her ability to embody diverse characters with depth and nuance. Some of her notable film credits include "Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei" (The Edukators, 2004) and "Der Brand" (The Fire, 2011).   

More recently, Rois took on the role of the Roman governor Varus in the Netflix series "Barbarians" (2020). Her compelling and authoritative portrayal of the historical figure added a significant layer of complexity to the series and introduced her talent to a global audience.
