Soumik Mukherjee
Biography
Soumik Mukherjee is an Indian cinematographer and director of photography known for his work in Hindi films and television. He studied Mass Communication at St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, and later specialized in cinematography at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.
He began his professional career assisting cinematographers on films such as Ship of Theseus (2012), Ghanchakkar (2013), Dedh Ishqiya (2014), and Katti Batti (2015). He later worked as a second-unit director of photography on Lucknow Central (2017).
Mukherjee's breakthrough as a cinematographer came with the independent psychological thriller Maroon (2017), directed by Pulkit. The film premiered at MAMI, and Mukherjee described it as a challenging project because it was shot largely in a single bungalow in Lonavala over 15 days.
His notable cinematography credits include Batla House (2019), Thappad (2020), Attack (2022), Jaadugar (2022), Bheed (2023), and the television series Mission Over Mars (2019) and The Broken News.
For Thappad, Mukherjee served as one of the film's credited cinematographers, working alongside Deepak Pawar Janu. His work is particularly recognized for its visual storytelling, camera movement, lighting, and ability to create atmosphere, making him an established cinematographer in contemporary Indian cinema.
