Early Life and Background
Srividya was born on 24 July 1953 in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu. She came from a culturally rich background—her father, M. Krishnamurthy, was a noted film producer, and her mother, M. L. Vasanthakumari, was a legendary Carnatic vocalist. Growing up in an artistic environment, Srividya was trained in classical music and dance, which later enhanced her expressive acting style.

 

 

Career in Cinema
Srividya made her acting debut as a child artist and transitioned into lead roles during the late 1960s and early 1970s. She soon became known for portraying strong, emotionally complex women. While she acted opposite leading stars in her early career, she later carved a niche as a powerful character artist, particularly in mother, sister, and authoritative roles.
