Stephanie Beacham

Biography

Stephanie Beacham (born February 28, 1947) is an English actress known for her extensive work in British and American film and television. Born in Barnet, Hertfordshire, England, she initially trained as a dancer before turning to acting.

Beacham began her screen career in the late 1960s and appeared in films such as The Three and the Four, The Games, Tam-Lin, and The Nightcomers (1971). In The Nightcomers, directed by Michael Winner, she played Miss Jessel, a governess involved in a troubled relationship with Peter Quint, played by Marlon Brando. The film served as a prequel to Henry James's The Turn of the Screw.

She became particularly famous for television roles. Her best-known performances include Sable Colby in the American primetime soap opera The Colbys and its parent series Dynasty. She later starred as the formidable matriarch Sable Colby in the British comedy-drama series Connie and gained renewed popularity as Rose in the sitcom Bad Girls.

Beacham has also appeared in numerous television productions, including Tenko, Sea Wolves, Sister Kate, Beverly Hills 90210, Midsomer Murders, and Coronation Street. Her performances have often combined elegance with strong, commanding characterizations.
