Steve Ackroyd
Biography
After starting his career cutting ads for the BBC, Steve Ackroyd was headhunted by the commercials edit house Final Cut in London, where he continued working on projects for the Beeb, ITV, MTV & Channel 4. Ackroyd soon expanded into the world of music videos, cutting promos for artists across genres, from Tinie Tempa and Girls Aloud to John Grant and A$AP Ferg.
When it came to cutting commercials, Ackroyd found a niche in both fashion and comedy. His knack for comedic editing has seen him work with directors such as Paul Weiland, Rhys Thomas, and Oscar Cariss. His work with Becky Martin on the star-studded "In-Flight Safety Video" for British Airways and Comic Relief, won a plethora of awards.
In the world of fashion and beauty, Ackroyd has cut films for Mario Testino, Bailee Walsh, Jonas Akerlund, and Warren & Nick, to name but a few, on films for clients including Hugo Boss, Lancôme and Versace. On top of this, his work on socially committed advertising with Martin Stirling for Greenpeace, WWF, and the Ad Council is some of his most striking.
In 2015 he made the leap into longform TV with Channel 4's multi-award-winning Catastrophe, directed by Ben Taylor - he proceeded to be the sole editor on the show for the first 3 seasons. Ackroyd has since cut series such as Hang Ups, Frank Of Ireland, Call My Agent, and all 3 seasons of the award-winning Sex Education for Netflix.
Ackroyd continues to cut ads and music videos alongside TV projects and is loving every minute!
